What I have been reading - 10th September 2020

Here are some of the things I enjoyed reading over the past week or so:

How much money is enough?:  This is it - this is what everyone grapples with.

Scientists calculated how much longer you can live with a healthy lifestyle:  "Extending lifespan is not sufficient, we want to extend health span, so the longer life expectancy is healthy and free of major chronic diseases and disabilities associated with those diseases."  I am always amazed by how few people want to live to 100.  The fear is always that they will have no quality of life. I want to hold my great grand-child and go to the gym on the same day.

Black homeowners face discrimination in appraisals:  Understanding this sort of discrimination is so important.  And it's heartbreaking.

Liquidity that quenches no one's thirst:  There is no yield to be had on cash. Don't fall into the trap of 'reaching for yield.'

How to identify pregnancy bias at work (and what to do about it):  I was directly impacted by pregnancy bias, and it hurts to read these statistics. It just has to change. I don't know what else to say.

When the magic happens: If there is only one thing you read this week, let it be this. It will restore your faith in the future. "The biggest innovations rarely occur when everyone's happy and safe, or when the future looks bright. They happen when people are a little panicked, worried, and when the consequences of not acting quickly are too painful to bear.  That's when the magic happens."

Experience is the best teacher:  This is a fantastic list of 'things I have learned' from Tony Isola.  A short and easy read.
